Plan options
Coverage that fits your life.
Between the ACA Marketplace, plans sold directly by insurance companies, and supplemental coverage, there's a lot to sort through. Here's a plain-language look at each, and I'll help you find the right fit for your situation and budget.
ACA Marketplace plans
Also called "Obamacare" plans. You buy these through HealthCare.gov or, in states that run their own, your state's exchange. Many people qualify for savings that lower their monthly cost.
- Premium tax credits can lower your monthly premium, based on income and household size
- Extra savings on deductibles and copays with some Silver plans, if you qualify
- Can't be denied or charged more for pre-existing conditions
- Essential health benefits always included, like preventive care, prescriptions, and hospital stays
- Metal levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum
Enroll during annual Open Enrollment, or during a Special Enrollment Period after a qualifying life event.
Off-exchange ACA plans
Some insurance companies sell ACA-compliant plans directly, outside the Marketplace. They follow the same ACA rules but don't come with tax credits.
- Same ACA protections as Marketplace plans, including pre-existing condition coverage
- Essential health benefits always included
- May offer different provider networks or plan designs
- Often the better choice if you don't qualify for Marketplace savings
- Not eligible for premium tax credits
Same enrollment windows as Marketplace plans: Open Enrollment or a Special Enrollment Period.
Supplemental & gap coverage
Extra coverage that works alongside your health plan. It's especially helpful if you have a high deductible or want added protection against a serious illness or injury.
- Dental and vision coverage
- Accident insurance: cash benefits for covered injuries
- Critical illness: a lump-sum benefit if you're diagnosed with a covered illness
- Hospital indemnity: a set benefit for covered hospital stays
- Gap plans to help with deductibles and out-of-pocket costs
Supplemental plans are not major medical coverage and don't replace an ACA plan. Many can be added at any time of year.
Common questions
Good to know.
Does working with an agent cost me anything?
No. Agents are paid by the insurance companies, and your premium is the same whether you enroll on your own or with my help.
When can I sign up?
Marketplace and off-exchange ACA plans can be bought during Open Enrollment each fall. Outside that window, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after a life event like losing other coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby. Many supplemental plans can be added any time.
How do I know if I qualify for savings?
It depends mainly on your household size and expected income for the year. On our call, I'll help you estimate what you may be eligible for before you choose a plan.
Can I keep my doctors and prescriptions?
Networks and drug lists vary from plan to plan. Before you decide, I'll check that your doctors are in network and your prescriptions are covered.
What if I live in a state you don't serve?
Reach out anyway. If I'm not licensed in your state, I'll connect you with a trusted, licensed partner who is.
