If you buy your own health insurance in Georgia, Colorado or Kentucky, open enrollment for 2027 coverage starts November 1, 2026. All three states run their own marketplaces: Georgia Access, Connect for Health Colorado and kynect. Here are the dates, plus the changes worth knowing before you shop.
Key dates for 2027 coverage
Open enrollment runs from November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027 in all three states. When your coverage starts depends on when you sign up.
| State and marketplace | Open enrollment | Enroll by Dec. 15 | Enroll Dec. 16 to Jan. 15 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia: Georgia Access | Nov. 1, 2026 to Jan. 15, 2027 | Coverage starts Jan. 1 | Coverage starts Feb. 1 |
| Colorado: Connect for Health Colorado | Nov. 1, 2026 to Jan. 15, 2027 | Coverage starts Jan. 1 | Coverage starts Feb. 1 |
| Kentucky: kynect | Nov. 1, 2026 to Jan. 15, 2027 | Coverage starts Jan. 1 | Coverage starts Feb. 1 |
If you live in a state that uses HealthCare.gov, open enrollment for 2027 is shorter and ends December 15.
Tip: If you want coverage with no gap on January 1, aim to finish by December 15.
What's changed for 2027
The extra subsidies have expired
The enhanced premium tax credits that lowered Marketplace costs for millions of people expired at the end of 2025. As a result, many people will pay more each month in 2027, and some higher-income households may no longer qualify for a tax credit at all.
Tax credits still exist. How much you get depends on your household income, family size, ages and plan prices where you live. Updating your application with your expected 2027 income is the best way to see what you qualify for.
Catastrophic plans are open to more people
Catastrophic plans have low premiums and very high deductibles. For 2027 they are available to anyone who doesn't qualify for a premium tax credit or cost-sharing help, not just people under 30.
Expect more paperwork
Income verification rules are stricter for 2027. Keep recent pay stubs or your latest tax return handy so your application isn't held up.
State by state
Georgia Access
Georgia is not offering a window-shopping period before November 1 this year, so you won't be able to preview 2027 plans early. Insurers proposed price increases of more than 20% for many plans, and the carriers offered in Georgia are changing. If you're enrolled now, review your options rather than letting your plan renew automatically.
Connect for Health Colorado
Cigna is leaving Colorado's individual market. If you have a Cigna plan, you stay covered through December 31, 2026, and you'll need to choose a new plan. Cigna members get a special enrollment period that runs until March 1, 2027. Colorado also passed a new law aimed at slowing future premium increases and supporting programs that lower monthly costs.
kynect (Kentucky)
Kentucky follows the same November 1 to January 15 window. Plans, prices and provider networks can change from year to year, so check that your doctors and prescriptions are still covered before you renew.
Should you let your plan auto-renew?
Usually not without a second look. With subsidies changing, prices rising and carriers leaving some markets, the plan that fit you in 2026 may not be the best value in 2027. A quick review can save you money or avoid a surprise in January.
